What does it mean to be ‘motivated?’
Personally, when I feel motivated, I feel like I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. This is due to the fact that having motivation in your life can open up a realm of possibilities for new opportunities and life-enhancing experiences. In fact, we feel most motivated when we discover something that truly excites our inner spirit and lights a fire in our soul. Simply stated (by business dictionary), motivation is “internal and external factors that stimulate desire and energy in people to be continually interested and committed to a job, role or subject, or to make an effort to attain a goal.”
However, there’s not always a consistency in what motivates us each and every time. This is similar to test-driving a new car – not everything you do will give you that “gotta have it” feeling. In other words, until you find that ‘perfect-fit,’ your degree of motivation to take on a new hobby or start a new business may fluctuate like the winds in a thunderstorm.
How can you become more motivated?
Let’s face it – we are all skilled at writing detailed ‘to-do’ lists. Furthermore, it’s not a difficult task to quickly come up with at least 10 ‘to-do’s’ for around the house. As we all know, daily responsibilities (cleaning, cooking, being a parent, etc) are endless and occasionally overwhelming. Not to mention, some days you just feel sluggish and would rather watch movies all day.
Well, according to the week.com,”we need to think to plan, but we need to feel to act.” Think of it like this – when you procrastinate about doing something, are you feeling good or feeling blah? It’s more likely that you’re feeling blah or humdrum and possibly in a ‘mental slump.’ With that being said, feelings are everything when it comes to being motivated. The more positive you feel, the more inclination you’ll have to accomplish your goals or tasks. In other words, the idea is to flood your mind set with positive feelings and happy thoughts to achieve volumes.

Essential oils and motivation/positive thinking
When it comes to feeling emotion, the body’s limbic system (located in the brain) is the ’emotion handler.’ In addition, the limbic system is interlinked with the centers in the brain that handle respiration, cognizance, degrees of stress, pulse, maintenance of blood pressure, and hormonal levels.
With this being said, essential oils are a valuable resource in terms of emotion modification because they can get directly to the brain’s limbic system. Their method of travel is by way of smell when inhaling the oil. Furthermore, the reason this method is so effective is because as you smell, the nasal cells collect the aromatic particles and relay certain cues to the brain’s limbic system. Consequently, administering essential oils through inhalation stabilizes emotions. Therefore, the solution to experiencing more positive feelings and greater motivation may be found in the scent of certain essential oils.
DoTerra’s encouraging blend, Motivate.
In order to promote feelings of motivation and encouragement with essential oils, doTerra has come up with an essential oil blend called Motivate. This oil blend consists of a mixture of ingredients to include: fractionated coconut oil, peppermint plant, clementine peel, coriander seed, basil herb, yuzu peel, melissa leaf, rosemary leaf, and vanilla bean absolute. So you’re probably wondering what’s so special about these ingredients in terms of how they are going to make me feel more motivated?
Well, first, the combination of the clementine and yuzu peels along with the peppermint plant create a substance loaded with monoterpenes which “enhance the therapeutic value of other components and are the balancing portion of the oil.” In turn, these ingredients possess both a citrusy and minty scent which is known to provide any user with a mental boost.
As for basil herb and rosemary leaf, ancient Greeks discovered that this combination was therapeutic in treating fatigue. This explains why these two ingredients would be beneficial in sparking motivation. In terms of the coriander seed (some consider it cilantro), it’s spicy properties are an aromatic catalyst which ignites the ‘get-up-and-go’ in you.
Lastly, melissa leaf and vanilla bean absolute provide the calming effect to balance the other uplifting scents and the fractionated coconut oil serves as a carrier oil for dilution purposes.
So there you have a brief explanation on becoming more motivated and doTerra’s motivate oil blend. I actually use this essential oil blend every day as part of my morning ritual and I encourage you to take this opportunity to propel your inner spirit to be the best form of yourself. In turn, you will undergo a significant transformation and be more productive than you ever dreamed of! With that being said, here’s to living your best life ever! Feel free to leave me a comment or any insight you may have on the topic of becoming more motivated.
