Why should I cleanse my body?
Do you ever feel like your gut is controlling how you feel physically and emotionally? How about that bloated, distended feeling after you’ve eaten straight-up junk food containing no nutritional value whatsoever? Well, regardless of your answers to these questions, your gut health plays a huge role in your energy level, mental focus, and numerous other things. In other words, think about the concept of “toxins in – toxins out.” Whatever you put into something, is what you’re going to get out of it.
Indulging in nutrient-deficient foods
Can you recall the last time you indulged in that greasy slice of pizza or that piece of rich chocolaty cake? After you ate it, did you feel like you could conquer the world or did you simply want to take a nap? Chances are that your eyelids became heavy and the desire for a nap took over. Why is that the case you ask? Well, first of all – some experts state that foods high in dairy, gluten, and refined sugar may be the reason behind fatigue if your body is allergic and trying to reject the substance. However, if no allergies are involved, it could be an elevation and peak of your blood sugar levels resulting in what’s known as a ‘sugar crash.’ Regardless of the reason, occasionally your body needs a thorough ‘clean-out’ of foods that have no nutritional value to the human body.
Your body and toxins
Either way, your body will make a valiant attempt to rid your body of any junky foods and any environmental toxins coming from voluntarily (foods) or involuntarily (pesticides on the surface of produce, air pollution from vehicles on land and airplanes, as well as manufacturing plants, and arsenic emitted from soil) sources. Unfortunately, these toxins can cause havoc to the inner workings of the human body.
In fact, arsenic found in our “earth’s crust is widely distributed throughout the environment in the air, water, and land and highly toxic in its inorganic form,” according to the World Health Organization. Unfortunately, our body’s flushing system can sometimes be compromised from a lack of adequate nutrition and water consumption. As a result, our liver and kidneys can become overwhelmed and need some external reinforcements (juice cleanses).
Sufficient cleansing or ‘wiping the slate clean’ can be done a minimal of 1 -2 times a year, but exponentially can add years to your life. In addition, cleansing with juices versus fasting with only water “prevents your body from going into a state called ketosis which means your body has no carbohydrates to burn for energy, so it has to burn stored fat or whatever else is available” according to webmd.com. Consequently, fasting with water only is a much harsher way to cleanse. However, nutrient-enhanced cleanses will foster your bodies’ already inherent purging process by offering some energy back-up.
Health benefits of cleansing
Besides freeing your body of all sorts of toxins, cleansing will benefit you in a variety of other ways. First off, cleansing is like changing the oil in your car – new, fresh oil seems to make your car run better right? Well, cleansing is very similar because it gives you more stamina and a greater ‘pep in your step.’ Also, when your gut is cleaned out, your body’s shield of defense against incoming pathogens (ex. common cold and flu virus) becomes stronger without needing to exhaust itself on digestive issues. In addition, cleansing can rejuvenate the texture of your hair and elasticity of your skin, as well as potentially lower your risk factors for developing chronic illnesses. Lastly, cleansing can sharpen your mind and thus, give you the ability to remain focused on the task at hand. At the same time, cleansing promotes a deeper slumber and a more refreshed feeling as you wake in the morning. In summation, when you cleanse, you are rebooting your body and for that moment in time, defying your numerical age.

So there you have a brief explanation of why you should do a body cleanse at least once or twice a year. Keep in mind that the biggest difference between the words cleanse and detox is that detoxing (unlike cleansing) follows strict guidelines as to what you can and can not eat. However, cleansing is simply just flushing your system and wiping the slate clean. In turn, this process of ‘erasing’ what’s currently in your gut, can help you live a healthier and longer life! With that being said, here’s to living your best life ever! Feel free to leave me a comment or any insight you may have on the topic of cleansing detox.
***If you currently take any prescribed medications for a medical condition, it’s always best to first consult your physician prior to doing a body cleanse. In addition, be sure to drink enough water to keep the body sufficiently hydrated during the cleansing process.
